The Surprise is a 19th-century freehouse, reopened in May 2021 under Jack Greenall’s ownership after a full refurbishment by Isabella Worsley.
The pub keeps its Victorian charm with upcycled wood, antique fixtures, and nautical art, while adding plush seating, warm lighting, and a bright private dining space called the Hamilton Room.
Upstairs, the restaurant seats 28, with large windows overlooking Surrey Mews and the Burton Court tennis lawns.
The kitchen focuses on seasonal British dishes, while the bar serves Surprise Ale, rotating guest beers, an extensive whisky list, over 20 wines by the glass, and classic cocktails.
